‘Chewbacca’ star’s family tells of ‘dark moments’ in his life as he grows older
Chewbacca’s mother has told of “dark moments” in her son’s life, including a series of drug overdoses and the death of her own son.
Star Chris Pratt told Entertainment Weekly at the end of June that the actor and his family struggled with addiction.
“The things that happened to my son are dark moments,” Pratt said.
“We just tried to do whatever we could.
I just wanted to keep him alive and keep him from going away.”
His mother, Gwen Stacy, said that she was aware of his drug addiction and struggled with the mental health of her son.
“It was a tough thing to go through,” she said.
“[Chris] would go to his parents house, his father would go there.
It was hard for him to deal with.
And he’d have those dark moments when he was getting high and he was feeling bad.”
Pratt and his wife, Lucy Liu, were separated after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“I knew it was going to be a difficult road, but I believed it would be worth it,” she added.
“He was my son, and he could not be anything without me.”
